    Orientation

The last holiday i went to my grandma’s home.

Her home is quite awesome, so far away from the city and close to the vegetables farm area. My grandma and grandpa are farmers.

I spent two days there and I did so many interesting things in the farm, helping my grandpa planted vegetables.

    Event

At the first day, I learned to plant spinach. What I did was moving out the young spinach from the seeding area to the plantation area.

I thought it was easy, but in fact, it was tiring. I had to move those one by one under the sun. I did that for several hours before launch and continued until afternoon.

In the night, i didn’t want anything except sleeping. I was really tired but it was fun.

I couldn’t wake up in the morning until my grandma knocked at my door. He laughed at me because what I did was not hard actually if compared with the real farmer.

Then, before we went to the farm again, my grandma had prepared for breakfast. After eating I follow my grandpa going to the next field.

We would do daily treatment for the 1 month age spinach. We had to give them enough water and checked if there were any caterpillars and grasshoppers.

    Reorientation

At the third day, I had to back home. I was sad to leave my grandma and grandpa. But, that’s fine because the next holiday I would go there and see them again.

  2. Last weekend, my friends and I went camping.
We reached the camping ground after we walked for about one and a half hour from the parking lot. We built the camp next to a small river.
It was getting darker and colder, so we built a fire camp. The next day, we spent our time observing plantation and insects while the girls were preparing meals. In the afternoon we went to the river and caught some fish for supper.
At night, we held a fire camp night. We sang, danced, read poetry, played magic tricks, and even some of us performed a standing comedy.
On Monday, we packed our bags and got ready to go home. 10

  3. We had a wonderful holiday in Bali.
It was a really great place. The people were friendly, the food was great, and the weather was a lot better than at home.
Most days were pretty. I swam two or three times a day, but my brother Fachri just spent all his time lying on the beach with his eyes closed.
Last Saturday I got on the bus and went to the north of the island, It was much quieter there than here–very beautiful, but no tourists. The next day we went across to
the east coast to see some of the old villages.
I learned Balinese–I couldn’t say much, but it was fun to try. Fachri actually spoke it quite well, but he was afraid to open his mouth, so I was the one who talked to people. 20

  4. My sister and I went to see a film last night. It was an American movie called The Lost Flight. It showed how people can quickly change when they have to look after themselves in the jungle. It was an interesting film about a plane which crashed on a small empty island in the Pacific Ocean.
Although the passengers were safe, nobody knew where the plane had crashed. So the passengers had to learn how to hunt for food in the jungle and how to catch fish from the sea to eat. After a few weeks, the passengers were eating raw fish and meat.
After they had been on the island for two months, three of the men made a boat and sailed away to find help. But their boat sank and they were drowned.
The film ended without saying whether the passengers were rescued or not. But my sister and I enjoyed the film. 40

  5. I live in a small house. It has five rooms: there are two bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Indeed it is a small house; but I like living in here for wasting my spare time.

When the door is open, I can see the living room. It is so small with only three chairs and a table, nothing else. I prefer reading a novel in this room.

My bedroom is in the left side of the living room. In this room there is a night table next to the bed, a TV, a radio, and a computer. When being bored of reading, I usually play online games, chat with my friends via Facebook and so on.

Next to my bedroom is my mother’s. I do not know what is inside because I never come in to see it. In the right side of the living room there is the kitchen. In the kitchen I have everything I need when I get hungry. It is very pleasure when my mother cooks, the smell fills my whole house.

I know it is a very small house; but it is the best place I have ever seen. 60

  8. Borobudur is a Buddhist temple. It was built in the ninth century under Sailendra dynasty of ancient Mataram kingdom. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

    (Description)
Borobudur is well-known all over the world. Its construction is influenced by the Gupta architecture of India. The temple is constructed on a hill 46 meter high and consists of eight steps like stone terrace. The first five terraces are square and surrounded by walls adorned with Buddhist sculpture in bas-relief. The upper three are circular. Each of them is with a circle of bell shape-stupa. The entire upper structure is crowned by a large stupa at the center of the top circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passage and stairways.

The design of Borobudur symbolizes the conception of universe in Buddhist cosmology. It is believed that the universe is divided into three spiritual spheres, kamadhatu, rupadhatu, and arupadhatu. The first sphere, kamadhatu, represents respectively the sphere of desires where we are bound to our desires; the second sphere, rupadhatu, represents forms where we abandon our desires but are still bound to name and form; and the last sphere, arupadhatu, represents formlessness where there is no longer either name or form. Borobudur temple which is rededicated as an Indonesian monument in 1983 is a valuable treasure for Indonesian people. With its magnificent size and architecture, no wonder that Borobudur Temple includes 7 wonders of the world. 135

Have you ever watch the cartoon movie “Kung Fu Panda”? The panda in the movie is described as a fat animal, love-noodle eater, and Kung Fu master. But the Panda that will be described below is not the Panda who can do Kung Fu like in that movie. Here is the description about Panda.

    (Description)
Pandas are bear-like animal which originally live in center and western part of China. Pandas have distinguish features that make them different other species of bear. Pandas have white thick fur which covers all of their body with black eyes patches, ears, nose, legs, shoulders, and arms. Those black marks make Pandas unique and different.
Like other species of bear, pandas have a big head, a short tail, rounded ears, and a long muzzle with a big nose. However, pandas’ diet is totally different with other species of bear; in which they prefer bamboos than others. 90% of pandas’ diet consists of bamboos. That is why pandas have adapted their body to help them in eating bamboos. Pandas have a big jaw with tough muscles and strong molars to crush bamboos so they can extract the nutrients they need. 155

  10. Wakatobi is the name of an archipelago and regency in Sulawesi Tenggara, Indonesia. The name of Wakatobi is derived from the names of the main islands in the archipelago: Wangiwangi, Kaledupa, Tomea, and Binangko. Do you know what? It is the best diving sites ever.
    (Description)
There are many reasons why I call Wakatobi as the best diving sites ever. First, the reefs in Wakatobi diving are unlike others in the region because of the dry climate and uplifted limestone. This means Wakatobi is an exceptionally clean environment due to the lack of soil erosion. Second, being a national park, fishing is strictly limited and the reefs of Wakatobi are protected. These superb reefs are supported and protected by the local fishing communities who obtain a fair share of the income generated by Wakatobi dive tourism in exchange for adopting more sustainable practices, such as leaving large stretches of reef completely untouched. Third, Wakatobi is located at the world’s coral reef triangle center with its 942 fish species and 750 coral reef species from a total of 850 world’s collection comparing to the two world’s famous diving center of the Caribbean Sea that owes only 50 species and other 300 species in the red sea. 175

  11. Lembah Pelangi Waterfall sounds unfamiliar for either local or foreign tourists. Lembah Pelangi Waterfall is located in Sukamaju village, Ulubelu sub district, Tanggamus district, Lampung province, Indonesia. The access to this place is quite difficult because Ulu Belu sub district is a remote area in Lampung with its hilly contours which make this tourist spot elusive.

Lembah Pelangi Waterfall has two levels where the waterfall on the second level has two branches. The height of the first level waterfall is about 100 meters, while the second level waterfall is about dozens of meters. The best enchantment of this waterfall is the rainbow which appears between the valley and the waterfall as the name suggests. The soft flowing gurgling waterfall sounds is like a chant of nature which can remove the tiredness of the long trip to go there. Under the waterfall, there are several spots of warm water which can be an interesting spot for bathing.

In this place, you will be shown a panorama of natural beauty which is very interesting for every pair of eyes seeing it. Rocky hills accompanied by leafy trees will actually soothe both your eyes. 190

  21. Village

A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town, with a population ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand. Though often located in rural areas, the term urban village is also applied to certain urban neighbourhoods. Villages are normally permanent, with fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur. Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to one another, not scattered broadly over the landscape, as a dispersed settlement.

Although many patterns of village life have existed, the typical village was small, consisting of perhaps 5 to 30 families. Homes were situated together for sociability and defence, and land surrounding the living quarters was farmed. 465

  22. Mouse-Deer

Mouse-deer, are small ungulates that make up the family Tragulidae, the only members of the infraorder Tragulina. They are found mostly in forests in South and Southeast Asia, with a single species in the rainforests of Central and West Africa.

Mouse-deer have primitive features, closer to non-ruminants such as pigs. All species in the family lack of horns, but both sexes have elongated canine teeth. These are especially prominent in males, where they project out on either side of the lower jaw, and are used in fights. Their legs are short and thin, which make them lack in agility, but also helps them maintain a smaller profile to aid in running through the dense foliage of their environments.

They are solitary or live in pairs. The young are weaned at three months of age, and reach sexual maturity between five and 10 months. Parental care is relatively limited. Although they lack the types of scent glands found in most other ruminants, they do have a chin gland for marking each other as mates or antagonists, and, in the case of the water chevrotain, anal and preputial glands for marking territory. Their territories are relatively small, on the order of 13–24 hectares (32–59 acres), but neighbors generally ignore each other, rather than compete aggressively. 490

They look like many beautiful brides wearing wedding dresses, and veils. In spring, Provo doesn't have many trees; when the snow melts the mountains are bald as strong bald men. Summer in Provo is very hot in the daytime. Last summer when I was walking under the sky, it was like walking in an oven; the sun was like a fire that burned my skin. In spring and summer the weather was always clear. I never used my umbrella. Provo was like a huge clothes dryer; it is very dry in spring and summer. In the fall the weather in Provo is very strange. One late September morning when I woke up, the mountaintops was covered with snow. Provo is a lovely and strange place. I love it very much. 550

It's nothing fancy, just a Madeira folk guitar, all scuffed and scratched and finger-printed. At the top is a bramble of copper-wound strings, each one hooked through the eye of a silver tuning key. The strings are stretched down a long, slim neck, its frets tarnished, the wood worn by years of fingers pressing chords and picking notes. The body of the Madeira is shaped like an enormous yellow pear, one that was slightly damaged in shipping. The blond wood has been chipped and gouged to gray, particularly where the pick guard fell off years ago.

No, it's not a beautiful instrument, but it still lets me make music, and for that I will always treasure it. 570

“Well, maybe someday, when I have the time, I may teach you a few of the simpler ones”, replied the fox airily.

Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The barking grew louder and louder – the dogs were coming in their direction! At once the cat ran to the nearest tree and climbed into its branches, well out of reach of any dog. “This is the trick I told you about, the only one I know”, said the cat. “Which one of your hundred tricks are you going to use?”. 590

Then the ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.

Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, “please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself.

Use this “lesung” as a boat”. The “lesung” was happy and thanked the old woman. The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. Swimming On The River

    Orientation

One day on the afternoon during my childhood I went to the river with my friends.
We lived at the small village and at the village like that any places such as river, yard, farm and garden were the most enjoyable place to play together.

    Event

At the dry season, usually we played kites, fishing, or swimming at the river. And that day was the day for swimming at the river because the day before we had already played kites.

It was actually a terrible day. We were swimming at the wrong place that was the place for the sand mining area. That place was dangerous for children like us because the depth and the stream were unpredictable.

We did not recognize the danger of that area. We swam happily because at that area we could find some small boats that were used for mining.

Of course, we used the boats to play also. We were 8 children swimming at the dangerous place.

At first we did not know that there was something wrong happened, we were still playing and swimming happily until the afternoon almost over. Because we had been there for more than two hours, we felt cold and stopped playing.

We wore our cloth and finally we recognized that one of us was disappeared. We began to be panic and afraid.

We called people who was still at the mining area and told them that our friend had gone. That people was also panic and angry and they quickly began to look for our friend together.

Many people explored the whole area to find our friend. 3 hours left and the result was nothing.

The sky turned dark and finally they stopped the searching and would continue it tomorrow at the same location and also at the dam of the river.

Unfortunately, the people of our village and the mining area could not find him.

    Reorientation

We were so afraid of that accident and we would never do the same thing at that river again.

Last summer I got a fantastic holiday. I visited some great places.

I went to an airport and was going to fly to Cleveland. I was spending there two days. I liked to see some Cleveland Cavaliers basketball matches.

Then I went to Hollywood. Hollywood is a famous district in Los Angeles, California, United States. It had become world-famous as the center of the film industry. Four major film companies – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO and Columbia – had studios in Hollywood. I did not want to leave but I had to.

After that, I went to New York city. I visited the Statue of Liberty. I went from the bottom of Manhattan to the top of the crown. That was very amazing.

The places made me feel at home but I have to go home. Next time I would return to them.

We arrived at Yogyakarta at night. We spent a week staying in my grandmother’s house which is 5 minutes away by foot to Malioboro street.

In the first morning, we were still too tired after a long trip from Semarang to Yogyakarta. So, we decided to stay at home to recharge our energy. I walk around the neighborhood with my sister just to experience how it is like to be in Yogyakarta. There were too many house, I think, which made the space between a house and the other was so small, even the road was also small that only bicycle and motorcycle can go through.

On the second day, all of us went to Malioboro street. We saw so many merchants with various of product which they claim to be a traditional product of Yogyakarta. I bought some wooden figurine and T-shirt with the word “Yogyakarta” printed on it, while my sister bought some leather handbag. My mom and dad were busy choosing some merchandise to be brought home when we go back.

On the third day, we went to Taman Sari and Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat to see some historical building in Yogyakarta. We took a lot of picture there. We also took some picture of the building so we can check it again at home. We found some place providing Yogya traditional food around the building and we jumped in right away.

We spent the rest of our week in Yogyakarta by visiting some Shopping Malls such as Jogja City Mall, Malioboro Mall, Hartono Mall and Ambarrukmo Plaza. We realized that Yogyakarta turned out to be very warm during the day, that was the reason why we decided to spend more time in airconditioned building like this.

The Goose and The Golden Eggs

Once a farmer went to the nest of his goose and found there an egg, all yellow and shiny. When he picked it up, it was heavy as a rock. 1 He was about to throw it away because he thought that someone was playing a trick on him. 2 But on second thought, he took it home, and discovered to his delight that it was an egg of pure gold!

He sold the egg for a lot of money. Every morning the goose laid another golden egg, and the farmer soon became rich by selling the eggs.

As he grew rich, he also grew greedy. 6 “Why should I have to wait to get only one egg a day?” he thought. “I will cut open the goose and take all the eggs out of her at once.”

When the goose heard the farmer’s plan, she flew away to a nearby farm. So when the farmer came out the next day, do you know what he found in the goose’s nest? 8 Nothing.

I was really in danger if my mom knew that my room was messy. So, I made it as soon as possible. After finishing everything, my aunts called me in the afternoon. As the consequence, I did my homework until late night and it was hardly finished. Since then, I always check my home work before having a holiday. 1155

I used to go to Krui every year as a child with my family. As kids, my brother and I loved the journey, it was such an exciting adventure for us. Most of our happiest family memories are hidden in this place. After nearly ten years since our last family holiday, we decided to head back to the place last month.
The first thing we did after arriving there was checking in the cottages we are used to staying every time we visit there. Of all the cottages in which we have stayed, I don't think I have found such a stunning and peaceful view as these cottages have. The cottages offer a breathtaking view of the whole of Krui, including the long coastline and the vast ocean. The view we have seen from the cottage really summed up the beauty of this charming town.
In the evening, we went into our favorite cafes and restaurants. As we have been to Krui so many times, we know the locals pretty well and they also recognized us very well. It was pretty emotional to meet our local friends after quite long time we haven’t met each other. That night, we ended up sitting out at the beach bar reminiscing about old times and sharing stories about our past experiences, which was lovely.
As we went towards the end of September this year, the weather was a bit unpredictable. The seas were a little rough on some days, which was actually a bonus. My brother and I are both strong swimmers and always loved to play in the waves there when we were younger. We repeated the history this year and tackled the huge waves together, it was great fun. On a few cloudy mornings, we went for a run barefoot along the soft, sandy shoreline. It was so refreshing and relaxing running alongside the clear blue waters.
Overall, it was a wonderful trip. I knew returning to Krui wasn't going to be easy, but it was something we needed to do as an annual family holiday. I may love travelling all around the world to some truly spectacular places, but Krui will forever hold a place in my heart.1180

  67. Last April, I was lucky enough to be included in a fam trip to India. There were five of us going in total and most of us had never been there before. It was one of my unforgettable experiences in my life.
The first few glimpses I got of Delhi as we drove out of the airport and into the city’s bustling heart gave me the impression of a leafy, busy, somewhat dusty city with stark contrasts here and there. One of the things that surprised me the most was when I saw all the big signs in advertisements, billboards or buildings written in English, all in large bold letters that sometimes accompanied smaller writing in Hindi. Seeing this fact, I thought that maybe the companies advertising in English do so because it makes them sound more international and reputable. But, whatever the reason was, it detracted a bit from the authenticity of getting a true Indian flavor. Of course the setting made you realize where you were, but still you don’t expect to see it all being written in English. At least I didn’t.
Whilst I didn’t see any on the streets of Delhi I did see quite a few cows in urban areas of Agra and Jaipur. They crossed the traffic-laden street and generally looked at peace in such an unlikely, chaotic environment. They didn’t seem to be put off in the very least by the continuous honking sounds or the smoke. They were the perfect image of carefree freedom and extreme adaptation in a rather unnatural setting. Some of them even seemed to be so friendly they approached our bus and if hadn’t it been for the fixed glass windows I’m sure I could have petted one. It truly was an amusing sight I’ll forever relish!
The next day we visited Taj Mahal. This was one attraction in India I feared would be less than what I imagined it to be. Not the case with the Taj Mahal. This building is really nice. At the beginning I saw it in the distance and it looked improbable, almost blurry as a dreamlike apparition that could vanish in an instant. Before getting closer to it, we stopped for a moment to appreciate it from a distance and let one of the local “official photographers” take individual and group photos of us which he then charged us at the equivalent of £1 per photograph.
Some of the photographs we took in that occasion were really stunning souvenirs and it was worth for every penny. According to me, it was a truly amazing and eye-opening experience I have ever had in my life.1200

  70. Last year, at the end of the year, my wife and I decided to spend our holiday at Tanjung Setia beach, which located around 234 kilometers from Bandarlampung.

When we arrived at the beach, we were surprised to see the beautiful view of the beach. After having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold and windy, we realized that there were not many people there. We thought that it happened because it was too windy there during that time but we finally realized that it was Christmas holiday so almost all of tourists who are used to spending time there went back to their country.

After spending few times swimming in the beach, we bought some hot chips at the takeaway store nearby, and we rode our bikes down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of the sand. The next day we visited Labuan Jukung beach. There, we were amazed to see the high wave owned by this beach. Because it was so high that no body was brave enough to surf on it that time.

The third day there, we decided to go home when we finally made it back home, we were both totally exhausted because of the trip but we were so happy to travel such an amazing beach Lampung province has. 10
